All Maven leather bags begin in a small leather studio on the Central Coast of California. Each piece is an original, designed by Maven founder, Emma Thieme.

Passionate about the natural world, Emma incorporates plant and insect natural dyeing into her leather work whenever possible. Many of the vibrant colors that you see in the Maven leather collections were hand dyed at Emma's leather studio, using sustainable natural dye concepts that date back 15,000 years in human civilization.

Emma uses minimally-processed, full grain leather hides for her bag designs, opting for the leathers that exhibit beautiful signs of life and would otherwise be sitting in a warehouse, unused. Most of these leather hides are from free-roaming American bison and are of premium quality. (American bison leather is also a more durable and eco-friendly leather compared to cowhide.)
